About Us

Welcome!

The Texas HSP Group is an online discussion group for the Highly Sensitive Person (as defined by Dr. Elaine Aron in her 1996 book "The Highly Sensitive Person") living in the Lone Star State.

The group was founded on December 23, 2007, and is intended as a supportive environment where Texas HSPs can find fellowship and support with their peers. The group is hosted on the YahooGroups network, and memberships are moderated to maintain an "HSP safe" environment.

A Bit of Background

This is actually the second "incarnation" of an online discussion forum for Texas HSPs.
The previous Texas group for highly sensitive people was active from 2003-06, and a small group of Austin and Central Texas HSPs started a "meetup" out of that group. The face-to-face group was largely made possible after Elaine Aron taught a weekend workshop at The Crossings in Austin, in the spring of 2004, based on her "Highly Sensitive Person" book.

In 2004, general awareness of what it means to be a "Highly Sensitive Person" was not as high as it is today, and whereas a small group of Austin area HSPs met for fellowship and support for almost two, the group eventually disbanded, and about a year later the online group also shut down because there simply wasn't enough activity (memberships and discussion) to meet Yahoo's "minimum activity" requirements, at the time.
